Brian Kelly, P.E.

Kelly _Brian-PhotoBrian Kelly is a Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman with over 25 years of experience in all aspects of commercial nuclear power reactor operations. Most recently, Mr. Kelly was a key member of Entergy’s Nuclear Strategic Plan (NSP) that developed and implemented the Nuclear Excellence Model (NEM) and associated core values.  In this capacity he also supported the critical component reclassification project. Prior to retiring from NextEra Energy in June 2016, Mr. Kelly served as a Staff Engineer at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Station and the Juno Beach Corporate Offices.  As a lead mechanical engineer he has held responsibility for a wide array of equipment at eight nuclear units located at five plant sites.  With experience in engineering, maintenance, operation and major plant refurbishment and modernization projects, Mr. Kelly was instrumental in the St. Lucie Nuclear Plant Extended Power Uprate (EPU) project, serving as the technical specialist for the large pump and heat exchanger replacement projects.  He is a design engineer qualified at two nuclear utilities as System Engineer, System Engineering Supervisor, Design Engineer, Project Engineer and Project Manager.  He has provided direct oversight and guidance to AE firms for the successful implementation of complex engineering change packages and analyses.  He has authored and presented root cause analyses addressing intricate problems to prevent reoccurrence and 10CFR50.59 safety evaluations supporting complex engineering changes.  Prior to entering the nuclear industry Mr. Kelly sailed on merchant vessels for ten years advancing to the position of Chief Engineer.

Mr. Kelly earned a B.E. in Naval Architecture from the State University of New York Maritime College. With extensive experience and knowledge in the operation, maintenance, design, testing and inspection of nuclear plant equipment coupled with extensive shipboard power plant operation and maintenance experience, Mr. Kelly is a recognized leader in the nuclear industry.
