Loren Plisco is a Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman. He has 40 years of nuclear safety experience, including senior executive positions at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Prior to joining Talisman in 2011, Mr. Plisco was the Deputy Regional Administrator for Construction in the NRC’s Region II Office in Atlanta, GA. In that position, he directed the implementation of the inspection and safety oversight programs for the U.S. commercial nuclear facility construction projects. Mr. Plisco previously held the position of Deputy Regional Administrator at Region II, where he directed the inspection and safety oversight programs for the 33 commercial operating reactors in the Southeast and 11 fuel cycle facilities nationwide.
Mr. Plisco joined the NRC in 1982 as a Reactor Inspector in the Region I office. He was later a Senior Resident Inspector at a construction and operating commercial reactor, and held leadership roles in the management of the NRC’s inspection and oversight programs in Region II and the Office of Nuclear Regulation in Rockville, MD. Mr. Plisco has either led or participated in many NRC oversight program improvement efforts and major investigations of nuclear facility performance or safety issues. Since retiring from the NRC in 2010, Mr. Plisco has been an independent consultant for the nuclear industry, and has been a member of several Nuclear Safety Review Boards for U.S. nuclear utilities. He has also supported foreign regulators in the development and implementation of safety oversight programs.
Mr. Plisco holds a B.S. degree in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a M.S. degree in Technical Management from Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of the American Nuclear Society. He received a Meritorious Senior Executive Award from the President of the United States in 2002 and 2009 for his leadership and management accomplishments.
