Michael Shannon is a Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman. He has over 45 years of experience in the nuclear industry, including service at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Consolidated Edison’s Indian Point Station, Units 1 and 2, and in the U.S. Navy nuclear submarine program. Before retiring from the NRC in 2011, Mr. Shannon served as the Chief of the Plant Support Branch, Division of Reactor Safety in Region IV where he was responsible for the oversight of physical security at the Region’s nuclear power plants. In this position, Mr. Shannon also was involved in the development of the NRC’s Physical Protection Significant Determination Process for Power Reactors and inspection procedures. Prior to this position, he served as a Senior Radiation Protection Inspector, also in Region IV. At Indian Point Station, Mr. Shannon served as the Health Physics Manager where he was responsible for the implementation and management of the radiological protection program. During his employment with Consolidated Edison, Mr. Shannon participated in the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations “on-loan” program, serving as an Evaluator in the Radiological Protection Program.
Mr. Shannon received a B.S. in Nuclear Technology from University State of New York.
