Sonia Burgess is a Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman. She has over 30 years of experience in the nuclear power industry in both the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. She worked at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for 23 years, most recently (1997‑2009) as a Senior Reactor Analyst in Region III.
Ms. Burgess has a thorough knowledge of the operational and engineering applications used at nuclear power plants and has demonstrated experience in identifying and analyzing potential safety significant issues for BWR and PWR reactors. She is an experienced risk analyst with extensive experience in the NRC Significance Determination Process (SDP) within the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP). She is also an experienced inspector of equipment testing, engineering, maintenance, operations activities, and facility management, such as quality assurance and administrative controls. She has a thorough understanding of NRC rules, regulations, and procedures for the administration and enforcement of licensee activities for operating nuclear power plants, as well as those under construction per 10 CFR 52.
Ms. Burgess received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University. She is a Certified NRC Senior Reactor Analyst, Certified NRC Inspector and Certified ANSI N45.2.6 (Level II Startup Test Engineer).
