Wayne Schmidt is a Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman with over 35 years of experience in all aspects of commercial and naval nuclear power reactor operation. Prior to retiring in July 2015, after 29 years with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Mr. Schmidt was the lead Senior Reactor Analyst (SRA) providing risk insights and operational safety focus in NRC Region I. This focus on reactor safety was demonstrated throughout his prior assignments at the NRC as an Engineering Team Inspection Lead, a Senior Resident Inspector and Startup Resident Inspector. Mr. Schmidt began his career with six years as a U.S. Navy Nuclear Shift Test Engineer, qualifying on submarine and aircraft carrier reactor plants. He advanced to a management position as an Assistant Chief Test Engineer which provided valuable experience in the control and supervision of complex reactor overhaul operations.
With extensive independent inspection and assessment experience and broad knowledge in the operation, maintenance, testing, design, inspection and regulation of commercial nuclear reactors, Mr. Schmidt is a recognized leader in the nuclear industry. He received a B.A. in Marine Engineering (power generation systems) from State University of New York Maritime.
